Sharing Spirits Class
Christianity is more than doctrine or theology, and even more than prayer. For many it is the daily effort to live one’s faith in every time and place. Get introduced to those who have done so over the centuries shows the many paths they found. You are invited to join the Sharing Spirits class as we learn about real lives that exemplify Christian faith in action. The study begins with Paul and the first Christian missionaries and ranges across 21 centuries, five continents, and several denominations, and concludes with Martin Luther King Jr.
Class in Pastor’s Office
This group is reading and discussing the book “Living the Quaker Way: Timeless Wisdom for a Better Life Today” by local author Philip Gulley. Gulley explains central Quaker values and practices—simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality—in clear and inviting ways, drawing on Quaker history to provide context and illustration of the distinctive ways of the Religious Society of Friends (another name for Quakers). He also draws on his own life, acknowledging shortcomings in ways that disarm and attest to the Quaker value of integrity of speech. No need to have the book or do homework – we read in class and discuss! All are welcome.
Living the Questions
We spend time each week honestly sharing our whole selves with one another. Following our time of sharing we are currently making our way through the video series “Saving Jesus: Redux” a small group exploration seeking a credible Jesus for the 3rd millennium. Basically, our group loves to wrestle with the more controversial questions as we support each other in walking our paths with Christ.
Join us for fall small groups, starting September 1!
As a way of honestly sharing our whole selves with one another, Gobin UMC is excited to offer another round of small group ministry beginning in September. Each group will have a discussion leader and will meet either at Gobin or in someone’s home.
In this round, we will offer three types of groups:
1) Pray Like Jesus: Rediscovering the Lord’s Prayer – this book study offers an in-depth look at the prayer Jesus taught his disciples and how it can strengthen our own prayer life.
2) Geeks for God: this group will look at the intersections between some of our favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasty media and our faith.
3) Small Group Meeting: these groups will meet and share about their lives and faith with one another.
In order to better meet your needs, please fill out the form below regarding preferences in meeting times. We will contact you with your group details by September 1st.
Thank you so much for joining us!
